We’re currently seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major port infrastructure project in South Shields on a freelance basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable and reliable engineer to work on a high-profile marine and civil works scheme, contributing to essential port improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

Carry out setting out duties for civil engineering works including piling, drainage, earthworks, and marine structures

Interpret and work from construction drawings and technical plans

Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality control on-site

Maintain daily site records and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations

Coordinate with site managers, subcontractors, and the project team

Conduct site surveys and produce as-built records where necessary

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on heavy civil or marine infrastructure projects

Strong knowledge of setting out techniques and equipment (e.g., Total Station, GPS)

CSCS card (essential)

Right to work in the UK

Ability to work independently and communicate effectively on a dynamic site

Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or related discipline
