Field Service Engineer – Mechanical
This is a rare opportunity to join a long-established, continually growing business within a truly niche industry. Based at their Edenbridge workshop, our client has been manufacturing, installing, restoring, and servicing clocks for over 100 years, with commissions spanning landmark sites across the UK and worldwide.
You’ll receive full training, a competitive salary of £30,000 – £35,000 (DOE), and the chance to work on unique, heritage-based projects that few roles can offer.
About the Role
The Head Office is based in Edenbridge, with travel primarily across the South East and very occasional overseas work. Alongside clocks, the business also manufactures, restores, and services Dials, Bells, Weathervanes, and Coats of Arms.
Working Hours & Benefits
* Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:00am – 5:30pm
(Time-change weekends will occasionally require work on a Friday and/or Saturday)

Key Responsibilities
* Carry out repair, maintenance, and servicing of large public clock and bell installations
* Liaise closely with the Operations Manager to deliver work against specific job numbers
* Prepare and organise installation work to ensure efficient loading and site readiness
* Attend site visits while adhering strictly to health & safety procedures and site-specific risk assessments
* Work at height using ladders, scaffolding, cherry pickers, spider lifts, etc.
* Assist with the erection and dismantling of scaffolding when required
* Ensure risk assessments fully cover site conditions and report any additional risks immediately
* Complete works orders detailing all completed tasks and findings
* Report site challenges that may affect future work (access issues, working conditions, health & safety risks, etc.)
* Liaise with customers on site, explaining completed works and occasionally providing guidance on clock operation or regulation
* Maintain a clean, tidy, and roadworthy company vehicle
* Be flexible in undertaking varied and sometimes unpredictable tasks beyond the core job description
Is This Role for You?
Essential Requirements
* Full, clean UK driving licence
* Ability to pass a DBS check
Desirable Skills & Experience
* City & Guilds Level 1 or 2 in Engineering (or similar)
* Minimum of 5 years’ general mechanical / engineering experience
* Experience with manual machining and basic machine maintenance
* Confident working at height (ladders, tower scaffolding, fixed scaffolding, cherry pickers)
* Strong organisational and planning skills
* Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work on your own initiative
* Comfortable working under pressure to meet fixed deadlines
* A team player who can work independently and motivate others when required
