Exciting Opportunity for a Traffic Regulation Officer in Yorkshire and the Humber

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Traffic Regulation Officer to join my client's Traffic & Transport team based in Yorkshire and the Humber. This role plays a key part in the assessment, drafting, implementation, and evaluation of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), working within the relevant legislative framework and supporting the effective management of the local highway network.

Working closely with internal teams, Legal Services, and external stakeholders, the Traffic Regulation Officer will be responsible for managing the full TRO process, from feasibility assessment through to post-scheme evaluation, ensuring compliance with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and associated guidance.

The main duties of the Traffic Regulation Officer are:

· Assessing the feasibility and deliverability of Traffic Regulation Orders in line with council and government legislation
· Drafting and developing TROs under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and liaising with Legal Services to ensure orders are correctly sealed
· Preparing reports for Executive committees and supporting decision-making processes
· Providing professional advice and support to internal colleagues and external partners on TRO matters
· Organising and overseeing on-site implementation of TROs alongside professional services teams
· Keeping up to date with legislation, national guidance, and best practice relating to TROs and highways
· Supporting responses to correspondence from Councillors, MPs, and members of the public
· Maintaining and updating relevant software systems used to manage the D-TRO process
· Auditing completed schemes and producing reports to assess the effectiveness and validity of orders
· Working flexibly to manage competing priorities and supporting wider team objectives

The Traffic Regulation Officer will have key experience in:

· Drafting, implementing, and evaluating Traffic Regulation Orders
· Working with highways legislation and TRO-related processes
· Building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders and partners
· Report writing for committees or senior decision-making forums
· Managing workloads effectively and working to deadlines
· Strong communication skills and attention to detail
· Ability to make logical, evidence-based decisions
· Experience using CAD for scheme drawings and plans (desirable)
· HND or higher in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience working with TROs
