SEN Science Teacher – Darwen

Salary: M1 – UPS2 (£31,650 – £47,338), dependent on experience
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: 40 hours per week
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly supportive independent SEN day school in Darwen, catering for young people aged 10–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Science Teacher to join a dedicated team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils who face barriers to education in mainstream settings.
About the School:
The school provides tailored education for pupils with complex needs, often including trauma-related behaviours, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Classes are small and supported by experienced Teaching Assistants, allowing for a highly personalised and supportive approach. Staff work closely with families, therapists, and external professionals to create a cohesive support network for each learner.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver a broad, balanced and inclusive Science curriculum
Plan and teach well-structured lessons tailored to a wide range of abilities and communication needs
Monitor pupil progress and implement strategies for individual improvement
Guide, support, and manage Teaching Assistants and contribute to their professional development
Work closely with senior leadership to help shape and deliver the school’s ethos and vision
Maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing classroom environment
Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
Uphold safeguarding, equality, and behaviour policies consistently
What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching in an SEN or SEMH setting is advantageous but not essential
A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching
Strong behaviour management and differentiation skills
Passionate about inclusive education and improving life outcomes for vulnerable learners
