We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work with children at a welcoming mainstream primary school in Keynsham. This role will involve working closely with students who have additional needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language difficulties, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
You may be providing one-to-one support for a specific child or working more generally across the classroom to help all students access the curriculum. Patience, flexibility and strong communication skills are key, as is a genuine desire to make a positive impact on children's learning and well-being.
While experience is helpful, it's not essential. We're primarily looking for people with a positive, nurturing disposition. This opportunity is also ideal for graduates in Psychology, Education or Health and Social Care, or anyone with a background in support work or care.
Main Responsibilities:
• Support students 1:1 or in small groups, adapting tasks to meet their individual needs
• Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation
• Work closely with teachers and other staff to provide consistent support
• Help students develop confidence, communication skills and independence
• Ensure students are safe and supported during play and lunchtime
Essential Criteria:
• Empathetic, patient and passionate about supporting children
• Available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30-15:30 (term-time only)
• Right to work in the UK - we are unable to offer sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas
• Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years)
• Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one*
*Please note, if you do not have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.
