An established and growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Cardiff is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to take a lead role in the technical and commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of building projects across South Wales and the wider UK.

This is a senior opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer looking to influence design quality, mentor engineers, and play a key role in the continued growth of a successful consultancy.

Projects range from local developments in Cardiff and South Wales to major schemes across the West of England and UK-wide.

The Role

As Principal Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Leading the technical delivery of multiple structural engineering projects

Ensuring design quality, accuracy, and compliance with UK standards

Overseeing and reviewing calculations, reports, and drawings

Managing project performance, budgets, and programme delivery

Providing mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and technicians

Acting as a senior technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders

Contributing to business growth and long-term strategic development

You will remain hands-on with design while also taking ownership of team leadership and project governance.

About You

Minimum 8+ years’ post-graduate experience in a UK structural engineering consultancy

Degree qualified (BEng / MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering

Chartered or working at Chartered-equivalent level (IStructE or ICE)

Strong experience in buildings structures (steel, concrete, masonry, timber)

Confident in leading projects and taking full design responsibility

Commercially aware with experience managing fees and resources

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Based in or able to commute to Cardiff (or willing to relocate)

Full UK driving licence

Experience in client-facing roles, business development, or mentoring is highly desirable.
