Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary £50,000 per annum

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fast-paced manufacturing business supporting a broad range of industries. Operating in a dynamic, customer-led environment, the company delivers tailored product solutions that meet specific operational and technical requirements.

The Role:

This is a customer-focused design position where you will work closely with the sales team to develop fully bespoke solutions from initial concept through to production. You’ll play a key role in transforming client requirements into innovative, practical designs that balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.

You will be responsible for:

Collaborating directly with the sales team and customers to understand requirements and develop custom product designs.
Applying creative problem-solving to deliver innovative solutions that meet both technical and commercial objectives.
Producing detailed CAD drawings, prototypes, and technical documentation to support design approval and production processes.
Selecting appropriate materials and design approaches, considering durability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
Liaising with production, suppliers, and procurement to ensure design feasibility and efficient production.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimise existing designs and develop new product concepts.
Keeping up to date with industry developments, emerging technologies, and materialsKey Skills & Experience:

Strong background in mechanical design, product design, or a related engineering discipline.
Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
Creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a solution-focused approach.
Confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with both internal teams and external customers.
Experience in working directly with clients to develop and present design concepts.
Good understanding of material selection, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture principles.
