Our client, a leading organisation within the industrial and engineering sector, is seeking an Engineering Manager to oversee maintenance operations at one of their site. Key Responsibilities:
Act as the statutory competent person responsible for the safe management of the mine maintenance function in accordance with relevant legislation.
Lead, motivate, and develop a team of maintenance engineers and technicians to deliver operational excellence and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Develop and deploy local maintenance policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives in line with company standards.
Prepare and manage maintenance budgets (Opex £0.5M–£1.2M; Capex up to £4M), ensuring cost efficiency and alignment with strategic objectives.
Oversee capital project planning and implementation to improve reliability, safety, and environmental performance.
Promote a culture of safety-first, ensuring statutory obligations are met and incidents are reported, investigated, and acted upon.
Ensure compliance with environmental consents and drive initiatives to reduce energy use, emissions, and waste.
Support long-term maintenance planning with a 6-month to 5-year horizon.
Foster collaboration and communication across internal teams and external stakeholders including regulators, contractors, and suppliers.
Encourage innovation, best practice sharing, and the use of continuous improvement techniques to enhance reliability and performance.Skills, Experience, and Training Requirements:
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
Proven experience managing maintenance operations in heavy industrial, quarry, or mining environments.
Demonstrated success in leading multi disciplinary teams in a unionised setting.
Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Proficiency in root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop and empower teams.
Effective stakeholder management and communication skills across all levels.
Strong financial and budget management capabilities.
NEBOSH or IOSH certification preferred.Preferred Experience:
Previous experience within quarrying, mining, or large scale heavy engineering operations.
Working knowledge of WCM (World Class Manufacturing) or similar frameworks.
Experience managing complex maintenance projects from concept through to delivery.Our Ideal Candidate:
