From lab data to demonstration plant: you’ll be shaping how it really works.
A well-funded UK process technology business is scaling up novel CO₂ utilisation technology from lab development through pilot and demonstration scale. This next phase is critical and needs an experienced process engineer who enjoys translating data into robust, operable process designs and being close enough to the plant to see it working in practice.
The Senior Process Engineer will sit at the core of process development activities, bridging detailed design, pilot plant operation, and future scale-up.
What you’ll be doing
· Leading process engineering design activities, including modelling, PFDs, P&IDs, and mass & energy balances
· Developing and optimising CO₂ hydrogenation, hydrocarbon upgrading, and separation processes
· Supporting pilot and demonstration plant operation, optimisation, and troubleshooting
· Translating lab and experimental data into scalable, reliable process solutions
· Participating in and leading process safety activities such as HAZID and HAZOP
· Acting as a technical mentor to graduate and junior engineers
This is a hands-on engineering role with real influence on how the process develops, not a purely desk-based position.
About you
You’re likely to come from a fuels, petrochemicals, refining, or similarly regulated process environment, and working at the interface between design and operations.
You could be:
· A Senior Process Engineer already working on scale-up or pilot facilities
· A Process Engineer ready to take on greater technical ownership and leadership
· Someone with strong design skills who wants to stay close to real plant operation
What matters most is:
· Strong fundamentals in process engineering and safety
· Experience turning experimental data into workable process design
· Confidence contributing during scale-up and early-phase operation
· A practical, problem-solving mindset in evolving environments
Qualifications & experience
· Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline
· Several years’ industrial experience in process engineering, ideally involving scale-up, pilot plants, or early-stage facilities
· Solid technical grounding in catalytic processes, hydrocarbon synthesis, and/or separation technologies
Why this role stands out
· Direct involvement in first-of-a-kind technology moving toward commercial reality
· Clear technical ownership across design, pilot operation, and optimisation
· Opportunity to influence how processes are scaled and standardised
· Exposure to future demonstration and commercial projects
· Competitive salary, annual bonus, strong pension, and wider benefits package
If you enjoy working at the point where lab-scale innovation becomes real, operable process design, I’d be very happy to have a confidential conversation.
