Role Overview:
Bury Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to provide an impartial and professional chairing service for multi-agency and departmental meetings relating to Child Protection and Looked After Children.
As an IRO, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective inter-agency working, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and promoting high standards of practice to safeguard children and support their families.
Key Responsibilities:
Chair multi-agency and departmental meetings for Child Protection and Looked After Children cases
Promote and monitor adherence to statutory requirements and Child Protection procedures
Ensure a consistent, high-quality service for children and families receiving support
Facilitate effective communication and joint working between professionals and agencies
Provide independent oversight, challenge, and accountability to ensure children’s voices are heard
What You’ll Need:
Social Work Qualification and Social Work England Registration
Substantial post-qualified experience in children’s social care
Strong knowledge of Child Protection procedures and statutory requirements for Looked After Children
Excellent chairing, communication, and negotiation skills
Ability to remain impartial while ensuring best outcomes for children

Locum role within Bury Council Children’s Services
Pay up to £40 per hour
