Role Summary
Our clients sectors include food & drink, manufacturing, energy and distribution.  Projects vary in focus and size, including capital expenditure projects focused on improvements to an existing facility or production lines or entirely new facilities on either brown or greenfield sites.
 
As a key member of the design team the Mechanical Engineer works across the project portfolio and supports the wider project management team. Working across multiple projects at the same time you’ll take on responsibility for elements of the project relevant to your engineering field and experience.  Building services are a key theme, specifically HVAC, water, refrigeration, compressed air and centralised plant. 
This role is focused on specification and co-ordination of design elements ensuring solutions provided by trade contractors meet to specific needs of each project and form part of the overall solution developed by the team. An understanding of electrical systems, project management, and construction methods is advantageous but not a pre-requisite for the holding this role.
 
Main Responsibilities and Duties 
Duties are best understood in the context of our established process:

Statement of Requirements Support the client and the project lead in seeking to understanding the project’s requirements; take responsibility for completing the Statement of Requirements documentation under project manager’s guidance. Produce written reports.
Basis of Design Take the lead on establishing the required solution, from an engineering perspective. Work in partnership with architectural colleagues, equipment vendors and other relevant parties, in support of the project manager, creating a final Basis of Design, which can be used to guide the client’s investment decision.
Detailed Design and Procurement Support the Project Manager in completing a detailed design; liaise with clients, vendors and sub-contractors to refine details; accurately update documentation and drawings as new information is available. Actively manage and reduce project risks associated with design. Knowledge, Skills and Attitude

Understanding of basic project management principles
Proficient user of 2D and 3D drafting software, and all standard MS and Google programs
Self-sufficient with a high-level understanding of other components
Demonstrably capable of providing support to areas of the business with which they are unfamiliar
Able to distil complex information and make it relevant and simple for others to understand.
Communicates assumptions and gets clarification on tasks up front to minimise the need for rework Qualifications & Prerequisites

A relevant postgraduate degree – in engineering, maths or science
Directly relevant, minimum 5 years work experience
Evidenced to be working towards full Membership of a relevant professional institution, such as IMechE.
Hold a full UK driving licence.
