Attendance & Alternative Provision Officer – Secondary School – Waterlooville
Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start

GSL Education are proud to be working in partnership with a well-regarded secondary school in Waterlooville to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Attendance & Alternative Provision Officer. This is a full-time, long-term role starting immediately or from September for the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities

As the Attendance & Alternative Provision Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting student welfare and ensuring every pupil has access to suitable education. Key responsibilities include:

Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, identifying patterns of concern.
Working proactively with families, staff, and external agencies to address attendance issues.
Conducting home visits and welfare checks as required.
Coordinating alternative provision for students not accessing mainstream lessons, including liaising with off-site providers.
Maintaining accurate attendance records and preparing reports for senior leadership and external bodies.
Supporting reintegration plans for students returning from alternative provision or long-term absence.
Upholding safeguarding procedures and contributing to a culture of vigilance and care.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally within a school, youth work, or welfare setting.
Be confident in building positive relationships with students, families, and multi-agency teams.
Be highly organised, with strong administrative and IT skills (particularly SIMS or similar systems).
Possess knowledge of attendance legislation and safeguarding protocols (training can be provided).
Demonstrate resilience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusive education.
Hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle (for home visits and off-site meetings).
