We are recruiting for an experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join a specialist team supporting an adolescent with complex learning disabilities. This role requires a highly skilled and compassionate individual with experience in managing challenging behaviours and providing consistent, person-centred support.
Role: Healthcare Assistant – Learning Disabilities (Adolescent Support)
Location: Newcastle (NE7)
Band: 2
Hours: Day shifts only (continuity of care preferred)
Duration: Ongoing – initial CV review to assess suitability
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-to-one care and supervision in line with the individual’s care plan.
Offer distraction and engagement therapies to promote calm, structured interactions.
Support the young person’s emotional, social, and physical well-being through positive behaviour management techniques.
Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.Requirements:
Proven experience supporting adolescents with learning disabilities in healthcare or specialist settings.
Strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
Excellent communication, patience, and resilience in challenging situations.
Commitment to continuity of care – ideally able to cover multiple day shifts.
Current enhanced DBS and relevant mandatory training.Additional Information:
This is a day-only role, providing one-to-one care for a specific young person.
