About the Role
You will work closely with teaching staff and SENCOs to provide targeted support to students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ensuring they feel safe, understood, and fully engaged in their educational journey. The role requires a nurturing approach, resilience, and a genuine commitment to promoting the academic and social development of neurodiverse pupils.
Key Responsibilities of ASD TA:
Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with ASD in mainstream or specialist classroom environments.
Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs.
Encourage pupil participation and monitor emotional well-being throughout the school day.
Implement personalised strategies outlined in EHCPs and contribute to progress reviews.
Foster a calm, structured environment conducive to positive behavioural support.
Support pupils with transitions between activities and assist with sensory regulation as required.
Promote inclusivity and build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families.
Ideal Candidates will have:
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly with secondary-aged pupils with ASD, is highly desirable.
A relevant qualification in Education, Childcare, SEN, or Psychology is advantageous.
Strong understanding of autism and associated needs, including sensory sensitivities and communication differences.
Confidence in implementing behaviour support techniques and working with external professionals.
Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and a consistent, supportive approach.
Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply through GSL Education).
