Digital and technology services are a growing part of how we support our mission, and we're investing in people and platforms to make a bigger impact.
We're looking for a versatile IT professional with a broad technical background-ideally in IT engineering or implementation-and experience across various technologies. You’ll be a strong communicator who can effectively translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams. A natural problem solver, you’re curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with others to develop solutions. Experience in delivering IT or digital projects and designing technical solutions is essential. What's the role about?
We’re looking for a Solutions Architect with 3-5 years of experience to join our Technology & Digital team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that span customer engagement, data platforms, and operational systems - all in support of nature conservation.
You’ll work collaboratively with business stakeholders, delivery teams, and senior architects to design and guide the implementation of scalable, secure, and sustainable technology solutions across the RSPB’s digital and enterprise landscape.
Key Responsibilities
* Design end-to-end solution architectures for medium-scale business and digital transformation initiatives
* Translate business requirements into technical designs that are aligned with architectural principles and strategic goals
* Collaborate with product owners, developers, data teams, and third-party vendors to ensure smooth delivery of solutions
* Assess and recommend appropriate technology options, integrations, and platforms (e.g. cloud, SaaS, APIs)
* Maintain up-to-date solution documentation and ensure reusability of architectural components
* Participate in governance forums, architecture reviews, and support the development of enterprise architecture artefacts
* Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, data protection, and accessibility standards
* Champion sustainable and inclusive design approaches that reflect RSPB’s environmental and ethical values
Essential:
* Proven experience (3-5 years) in solution architecture or a closely related technical role
* Solid understanding of modern architecture patterns (e.g. microservices, APIs, cloud-native, event-driven design)
* Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, or GCP) and SaaS ecosystems
* Strong collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Ability to produce clear architecture documentation
* Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments
* Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, delivery-focused mindset
Desirable:
* Experience within the charity, non-profit, or public sector
* Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g. Dynamics 365, Salesforce), data platforms
What We Offer
* A chance to work for a purpose-driven organisation tackling the most important issues of our time
* Flexible working options and a supportive, inclusive culture
* Opportunities for professional growth and learning
* Employee benefits including pension scheme, generous 34 days annual leave (incl. bank holidays), and wellbeing support
