A Specialist SEN/SEMH School in Cheltenham is looking for a Mental Health Support Assistant to join their dedicated and compassionate team. The school provides a nurturing environment where every child is supported to build confidence, develop positive relationships, and thrive both academically and emotionally.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff, you'll help students manage their emotions, behaviour, and learning through targeted interventions and personalised support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH or additional learning needs.
Implement tailored strategies to help pupils regulate emotions, manage anxiety, and develop resilience.
Support classroom learning and engagement, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage participation and personal growth.
Collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to promote wellbeing and inclusion across the school.
Contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and restorative environment where every pupil feels valued.Requirements:
Experience supporting children or young people with additional or complex needs (education, care, or mental health background desirable).
A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach.
Willingness to apply for or hold a valid Enhanced DBS.
