Building Inspector
Pay Rate: £55 per hour PAYE | £70 Umbrella rate (inside IR35)
6-Month Temporary Contract | Berkshire-Based Local Authority
We’re currently working with a Berkshire-based Local Authority seeking an experienced Building Inspector to join their Building Control team on a 6-month temporary contract.
This role requires a confident professional who can work independently, manage their own caseload, and provide expert advice across a range of regulatory and technical areas. You’ll need to be proactive, responsive, and capable of dealing with everything from routine site inspections to dangerous structures and Building Act enforcement.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess and check Building Regulations applications.
Conduct site inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records.
Assist with dangerous structures during and outside of normal working hours.
Validate and raise fees in line with submitted applications.
Draft formal correspondence for contraventions, court statements, and attend legal proceedings where required.
Oversee demolition works in line with Building Act 1984 and Council policy.
Manage aged applications and issue ‘plans of no effect’ where appropriate.
Inspect and correspond on applications for Building Regulation relaxations/dispensations.
Provide input on means of escape/fire safety provisions.
Make recommendations for application approvals or rejections under delegated powers.Person Specification:
Registered or working towards Class 2/3 BSR registration.
Demonstrable Local Authority Building Control experience.
Sound understanding of Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and Health & Safety legislation.
Confident managing individual and team workloads to meet statutory deadlines.
Ability to provide technical guidance to stakeholders, maintain CPD, and uphold regulatory standards.
