Overview
My client is currently seeking a Workshop Manager to lead and oversee a busy production and workshop environment. This role would suit an experienced, hands-on manager with a strong mechanical engineering background and proven experience supervising workshop or production teams. The position is responsible for coordinating daily operations, driving productivity and quality, and ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage daily, weekly, and monthly workshop schedules to ensure timely and high-quality production
* Organise workflow by assigning tasks, assessing resource requirements, and identifying efficiency improvements
* Monitor production output against specifications, ensuring effective use of labour and materials
* Oversee BOMs and special instructions, providing feedback to relevant teams to reduce waste and improve efficiency
* Resolve day-to-day production issues to ensure smooth workshop operations
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives across processes, cost control, and productivity
* Ensure safe use of equipment and coordinate maintenance and repairs with relevant teams
* Develop and manage a multi-skilled production team, including apprentices and trainees
* Maintain high standards of health & safety, hygiene, and workshop organisation
* Implement productivity and performance measurement tools
* Ensure punctuality, performance, and accountability across workshop staff
* Support wider operational goals by taking on additional responsibilities as required
The Candidate
Holds an engineering qualification
Proven experience as a Workshop Manager, Production Supervisor, or Foreman
Strong background working with engines
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring experience
Experience working within ISO9001 quality environments
Good understanding of health & safety legislation
Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills
Confident communicator with a hands-on leadership style
Proficient with computer systems and workshop reporting tools
Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience would be desirable
Salary
£45,000 – £50,000 per annum, depending on experience
