About the role:
As Maintenance Operative you'll work closely with the Retail Maintenance Engineer to carry out both reactive and planned maintenance across a portfolio of charity shops. Your work will directly support the safety, appearance, and smooth running of these sites. You'll perform general repairs, decorative improvements, small installations, and building checks, helping maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key duties include:
• Conducting inspections and reactive repairs across multiple retail locations
• Supporting planned preventative maintenance tasks and projects
• Completing minor refurbishments, decoration, and general shop upkeep
• Monitoring systems such as heating and water
• Liaising with shop teams to support operational continuity
• Recording maintenance activity accurately
• Occasionally working weekends or public holidays (time off in lieu offered)
About you:
• Must have a full UK driving licence
• Skilled in general repairs, light carpentry, decoration, or trade maintenance
• Able to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
• Confident in communicating with shop teams and volunteers
• Holds a full clean UK driving licence and is comfortable driving vans
• IT literate and organised with good timekeeping
