Cardiff Council is seeking an experienced Assistant Solicitor (Procurement) Locum to join our Governance and Legal Services – Procurement team on a temporary contract, with a strong possibility of extension.
As Assistant Solicitor (Procurement), you will provide high-quality legal advice and support on procurement, contracts, and general local government law matters. You will play a key role in advising on the Procurement Act, Public Contracts Regulations, and governance and decision-making within local government — ensuring our services continue to operate within a robust legal framework.
? Location: Remote (hybrid working supported; occasional attendance at council sites may be required)
? Contract: Temporary (initially 3 months, potential to extend)
⏰ Hours: 37 hours per week

? Pay Rate: £55.76 per hour (via Umbrella)
Essential Requirements:

Qualified Solicitor (holding a current practising certificate) or Barrister with equivalent qualification.

Proven experience and knowledge of procurement law, including the Procurement Act and Public Contracts Regulations.

Demonstrable experience in drafting and amending contracts, including standard forms.

Knowledge and experience of local government law, including governance and decision-making processes.
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice.
*
Strong IT skills (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, online legal research tools, and legal case management systems).
*
Ability to use DocuSign (or equivalent) for completion of contracts.

Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
