Payroll Officer

We are on the lookout for a Payroll Officer to work within our friendly payroll team in Fleetwood.  We are currently a team of 5 and would love to welcome someone new into our supportive group.

The role will initially be office based in Fleetwood but on successful completion of probation you’ll be able to work hybrid with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home.

We are looking for a team player who:
is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment (especially at month end!)
can prioritise their work to meet payroll deadlines with good organisational skills
is comfortable using Excel and has attention to detail when inputting and checking information
communicates with ease, both verbally and written, and can build relationships with regular contacts
can question and challenge anomalies and influence employees and managers to follow processes
is flexible, enthusiastic and positive
Ideally has previous payroll knowledge but we’ll consider a strong Administrator who’d like a career in payrollAs a Payroll Officer you’ll be an integral member of our payroll team. Together we process a combination of 26 payrolls with varying pay dates for over 1,500 employees.

The Role

Responsibility for processing your own payrolls from start to finish to include:
gathering and uploading payroll data
checking and processing new starters, leavers and salary changes
inputting and checking of absence and running absence reports
checking and approving payslips
creating reports and gaining approval to finalise the payroll
uploading BACS payments onto the bank
creating and sending payroll journals
dealing with any subsequent payroll queries
Support the Payroll Supervisor to ensure that all payroll related tasks are undertaken as required
Provide ad hoc reports and information as required to the Business Unit Directors
Provide accurate and appropriate pay related information to employees or line managers
Identify and contribute to process improvements/efficiencies as agreed with the Payroll Manager
Saving and maintaining documents in electronic employee files ensuring GDPR standards are met
Involvement and support with specific projects and specialist areas (e.g. tax year)
Respond to external enquiries e.g. earning details or loss of earnings enquires
Engage in training opportunities and taking ownership of your own personal development
