Job Summary

A welcoming primary school in Burnley is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide mornings‑only support for a child with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding 1:1 role for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs. The role is to start as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with SEMH needs
Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Support the child to access lessons and engage in learning
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external agencies
Assist with tailored interventions and personalised learning plans
Maintain a calm, safe and structured environment
Build a trusting, supportive relationship with the child
Record observations and contribute to progress reviews

Essential Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

Proven experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting
Strong behaviour‑support and de‑escalation skills
The ability to build positive, consistent relationships
Experience working in a primary school environment
An understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant are desirable, but experience is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
