We are working with a fantastic secondary school in Islington seeking a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant to join their SEN support team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who have additional needs and help them flourish both academically and emotionally.
The Role – ASD Teaching Assistant
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with ASD
* Assist in the classroom to promote inclusive learning, adapting tasks and resources where necessary
* Work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to implement EHCP targets and support strategies
* Use visual aids, structured routines, and assistive technology to enhance access to learning
* Support emotional regulation, social communication and behaviour management
* Encourage independence, confidence and engagement with the wider school community
What We’re Looking For – ASD Teaching Assistant
* Experience supporting students with Autism and associated needs (e.g., anxiety, sensory processing, communication challenges)
* Understanding of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, social stories, or TEACCH
* A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Ideal Candidates – ASD Teaching Assistant
* Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants with ASD experience
* Psychology or SEN-focused graduates
* Those with backgrounds in care, youth work, or speech and language support
* Applicants looking to pursue a career in teaching or SEN
