Refuge Team Leader
Location: Torfaen (refuge sites across the region)
Salary: £26,520 FTE per annum, rising to £27,030 after successful probation
We are seeking an experienced Refuge Team Leader to join a dedicated team supporting adults and children who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse, harm, and violence. The Refuge Team Leader will be instrumental in overseeing trauma-informed support services within refuge environments across the region, ensuring a safe and compassionate environment for all residents.
The Refuge Team Leader position offers a permanent opportunity, working full-time hours of 35 per week, with flexible options and occasional evening and weekend shifts. The role involves working closely with support workers, relief team members, and external agencies to deliver person-centred care following safeguarding legislation and organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist the Support Service Coordinator in delivering trauma-informed support to individuals affected by abuse, recognising their needs with empathy and respect.
* Provide line management to support staff, including recruitment, supervision, and training, embedding a culture of inclusion, safety, and dignity.
* Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns, maintaining a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach.
* Carry a small caseload, supporting clients through initial assessments, access to refuge, and ongoing support, including advocacy, safety planning, and referrals to external agencies.
* Coordinate move-on and resettlement planning, developing strong partnerships to enable safe relocation from refuge.
* Attend multi-agency meetings, safeguarding groups, and other forums to ensure the organisation’s responsibilities and safety measures are fulfilled.
* Lead licence-specific meetings with residents, addressing escalated concerns collaboratively and documenting outcomes.
* Oversee operational health and safety standards within refuge sites, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and maximising occupancy.
* Monitor record-keeping, contract management, and financial procedures, including petty cash and charges, to ensure compliance and accuracy.
* Lead team meetings to foster open communication and service development, and participate in internal projects aimed at continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience in shelters, refuges, or domestic abuse services, with a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies, multi-agency working, and support planning.
* Leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a team in a sensitive environment.
* Excellent communication skills, with an ability to build strong relationships with residents, colleagues, and external partners.
