Job Title: Technical Sales Engineer – Navy Sector
Location: Onsite – Reading, UK
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 (dependent on experience)
Role Overview
This is a rare and rewarding role for an engineer looking to pivot into a client-facing technical sales position. You’ll engage directly with defence sector clients to define their technical requirements, advise on product selection, and negotiate contracts. Your foundation in engineering principles and will allow you to support sophisticated procurement projects and build long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Establish and understand client requirements through technical and commercial meetings
Prepare quotations and assist with product selection based on client specifications
Negotiate commercial contracts with a strong grasp of risk, NDAs, and terms & conditions
Provide technical expertise and application support, tailored to each project’s demands
Build and maintain relationships with existing clients while developing new contacts
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the defence and naval sectors
Collaborate with internal teams such as engineering, production, and suppliers to meet delivery and performance expectations
Prepare and deliver technical proposals and presentations using PowerPoint and related tools
Complete monthly sales reports, tracking activity, pipeline, and key performance metricsRequired Qualifications & Experience
Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Strong skills in Excel (data analysis, quoting) and PowerPoint (technical presentations)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commercial awareness and a desire to grow into a technical sales roleDesirable Skills (not essential)
Experience working in the defence or naval sectors
Familiarity with MoD procurement processes
