Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer
Salary: £38,000 - £45,000
Location: Gateshead
About the Role
You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs, developing schematics and drawings, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and codes. Working closely with senior engineers and the wider design team, you will contribute to projects across retail, education, healthcare, residential and commercial sectors.
This is an office-based role with opportunities to attend site inspections and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers. You will gain practical experience across the full design process, from concept through to detailed design and installation support.
Key Responsibilities
Produce high-quality electrical drawings and technical documentation under the supervision of senior engineers
Design LV supply and small power distribution, earthing and lightning protection, lighting, fire and voice alarm systems, data services, low current and extra low voltage services, automatic controls, access control/security, BMS and other related electrical utility systems
Prepare electrical design calculations, specifications, schedules and tender documents
Attend design team meetings and site inspections
Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and other designers to ensure coordination and compliance
Apply and enhance design and technical knowledge to deliver high-quality project outputs
The Ideal Candidate
HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent certified Electrical Engineer
Ideally 1 year or more post-graduate experience in a building services consultancy or relevant engineering business
Knowledge of electrical building services (HV/LV Power, Lighting, Emergency Lighting, Lighting Control, Fire Alarms, Communication Systems, Lightning Protection, Security and Access Control)
Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience desirable but not essential
Experience with Relux, Dialux or Amtech desirable but not essential
Understanding of current wiring regulations and industry standards
Affiliation with recognised professional bodies desirable but not essential
Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment
