Role: Children Panel Care Solicitor (Associate / Senior Associate)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: DOE
Firm: Top Legal 500
A leading family law practice with a strong national profile is seeking an experienced Children Panel Care Solicitor to strengthen its Birmingham offering.
This position sits within an established children and public law practice that is widely respected for the quality of its care work and its thoughtful, child-focused approach. While part of a substantial organisation with a strong national footprint, the Birmingham office operates as a small and personable team, offering a genuinely supportive and non-hierarchical working environment.
The role involves handling a broad range of public law children matters, including complex and sensitive care proceedings, supported by an experienced team and a well-embedded legal aid infrastructure. The firm's reputation and long-standing presence in this area of work ensures a steady flow of interesting and meaningful cases, rather than volume-driven files.
This appointment would suit an established Children Panel solicitor looking for a role that offers security, autonomy and professional respect, particularly those seeking a sustainable and well-supported platform for the next phase of their career. Equally, there is scope for those with longer-term ambitions to contribute strategically to the development of care work locally and to take on a mentoring or leadership role as the team continues to evolve.
The successful candidate will have:
Solid experience in public law children matters
Children Panel membership, or be close to achieving it
The ability to run care proceedings confidently from start to finish
Experience of conducting their own advocacy
A measured, empathetic and professional approach to clients and colleaguesThe firm offers a collegiate culture, high standards of legal work and the backing of a well-resourced national practice, without sacrificing the autonomy and personal feel of a smaller team.
Key requirements:
Significant experience in public law children work
Children Panel membership (or actively working towards it)
Confidence in managing a full care caseload, including complex matters
Ability to conduct own advocacy
A strong commitment to representing children and families to the highest professional standardsIn return, the firm offers high-quality work, a supportive and inclusive environment, and the opportunity to be part of one of the leading Children & Care teams in the country.
