Job Overview
Our client are a growing groundworks and civil engineering company seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support their finance function. The role will involve day-to-day accounting tasks, with a strong focus on purchase ledger and supporting monthly accounts. Experience within construction or groundworks is advantageous but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger
* Processing supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
* Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
* Dealing with supplier queries and statement reconciliations
* Preparing supplier payment runs
General Accounts Duties
* Assisting with bank reconciliations
* Posting journals and maintaining accurate ledgers
* Supporting monthly management accounts
* Assisting with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns
* Maintaining organised financial records and filing systems
Administrative & Support Tasks
* Liaising with site managers and subcontractors regarding invoices
* Assisting with payroll data preparation (hours, timesheets, etc.)
* Providing general support to the accounts team as required
Skills & Experience Required
* Previous experience in an accounts assistant or similar finance role
* Strong attention to detail and good numerical skills
* Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar)
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
* Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills
Desirable (but not essential)
* Experience within construction or groundworks
* Knowledge of CIS and subcontractor payments
