The Role
Reporting to our SHEQ Manager, you’ll provide expert support across all projects and business areas to ensure we operate safely, responsibly and in line with environmental and sustainability standards. You’ll be involved in everything from site inspections and carbon reporting to sustainability initiatives and emergency planning. You’ll work closely with project teams, contractors and clients - helping Connolly deliver safe, environmentally responsible and compliant operations every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Promote a positive, proactive culture around health, safety, wellbeing and environmental responsibility
* Make sure activities follow UK Health & Safety laws, ISO 14001 and Connolly’s EHS policies
* Champion sustainability and ESG principles across all projects, including carbon reduction and responsible sourcing
* Monitor environmental, carbon and ESG performance and produce clear reports and dashboards for clients and leadership
* Support tenders and bids with EHS and sustainability input
* Carry out risk assessments, review RAMS, and complete site inspections and audits
* Lead and support incident and near-miss investigations and embed lessons learned
* Deliver EHS training, toolbox talks, briefings and support emergency drills
* Work with Retrofit Coordinators, Designers and Project Teams to ensure safe and compliant retrofit and decarbonisation work (PAS 2035)
* Keep accurate EHS records, documents and reports to meet client and regulatory requirements
* Support external audits for ISO and other certifications
* Advise on environmental permitting and compliance
* Lead sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction, energy efficiency and environmental improvement projects
* Engage with local communities on safety and environmental topics
* Support the rollout of digital EHS tools and reporting systems
* Drive continuous improvement and help shape safer and more sustainable ways of working
* Work closely with HR and Training to embed EHS principles into onboarding and staff development

About You
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re proactive, confident and enjoy supporting teams to work safely and responsibly.
You’ll need:
* NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate (or equivalent)
* IEMA / ISEP certification (Foundation or Practitioner)
* At least 3 years’ experience in a similar EHS role (construction or social housing desirable)
* Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation, ISO 14001, and sustainability standards
* Great communication skills and the ability to influence others
* Strong organisation, time-management and record-keeping skills
* Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks
* A commitment to continuous learning and professional development
