SEND Teaching Assistant

Full-time and Part-time opportunities available
Milk Education is working with a SEND specialist provision in the Durham area to recruit SEND Teaching Assistants who genuinely want to make a positive difference in the lives of children with Autism and complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
This role is suited to individuals who are patient, caring, and passionate about supporting children to feel safe, understood, and included in their learning. You will work with pupils who may be non-verbal, have physical disabilities, or require high levels of personalised support, so a calm, non-judgemental approach and strong communication skills are essential.
Both full-time and part-time positions are available, offering flexibility to suit your availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND
Support the delivery of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and agreed behaviour support strategies
Encourage emotional wellbeing, communication, and social development
Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
Support with personal care when required (training provided)
Observe, record, and share pupil progress with the wider school team
Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Person Specification:
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
A patient, caring, and non-judgemental approach
Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to individual needs
Ability to build positive and trusting relationships
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply
