Job description and responsibilities

Cost analysis: Calculating the costs of materials, transportation, labour, and equipment hire for projects.

Preparing estimates: Creating detailed cost proposals, sometimes called bids or tenders, and presenting them to clients.

Supplier management: Researching and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to secure accurate and competitive quotes.

Project monitoring: Ensuring project costs stay in line with forecasts and tracking variations in the work scope.

Documentation review: Interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.

Risk assessment: Identifying potential risks in a project and developing mitigation strategies.

Regulatory compliance: Staying up to date with industry regulations and ensuring all estimates adhere to them.

Qualifications

University degree: Degrees in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying are highly relevant.

Higher National Diploma (HND): An HND in a related field is also a valid pathway.

Key skills

Strong mathematical, analytical, and computer skills, including proficiency with estimation and project software such as Excel, AutoCAD, and Primavera.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and time-management skills are essential, along with a keen attention to detail
