Transport Manager

About the Role

Our client a well established national business head officed in Carlisle. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Transport Manager to join their dynamic logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the transportation operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective delivery of goods while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage and coordinate all aspects of the company's transport operations, including fleet management, route planning, and driver scheduling

* Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations, including drivers' hours, vehicle maintenance, and health and safety requirements

* Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs

* Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions

* Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company's vehicle fleet, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards

* Manage and motivate a team of drivers, providing training and support as needed

* Liaise with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and high levels of customer satisfaction

* Prepare and maintain accurate records and documentation related to transport operations

* Investigate and resolve any incidents or accidents involving company vehicles

* Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, implementing new technologies and processes as appropriate

* Manage budgets and control costs associated with transport operations

* Ensure environmental sustainability in transport operations, implementing fuel-efficient practices and exploring alternative fuel options where possible

Required Qualifications

* Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage

* Proven experience as a Transport Manager, with a strong track record in multi-drop operations

* In-depth knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements

* Excellent organizational and time management skills

* Strong leadership and team management abilities

* Proficiency in using transport management systems and other relevant software

* Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills

* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

* Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field

* ADR or Fuels experience a plus

* Additional industry-specific certifications (e.g., IOSH, FORS)

* Knowledge of lean management principles and continuous improvement methodologies
