We’re working with a manufacturing site seeking a Control Systems / Automation Engineer with 3–5+ years’ experience in a plant or industrial environment. The role is site-based and offers the chance to take real ownership of the control systems while contributing to ongoing projects and future site investment.
The role will involve:
* Managing and maintaining the on-site Siemens PLC systems
* Writing, modifying, and improving PLC code to support safe and efficient operations
* Supporting control systems projects and continuous improvement initiatives
* Ensuring control systems reliability and process stability across the site
The site operates with ATEX areas and SIL-regulated systems. Experience in these areas is beneficial but not essential, as training and development can be provided.

Main Responsibilities:
* Act as first point of contact for Electrical and Automation maintenance support.
* Provide rapid response to breakdowns, minimising plant and process downtime.
* Modify and maintain PLC programs (Siemens, TIA Portal, WinCC), ensuring program integrity is preserved.
* Support operations and projects across control systems, electrical infrastructure, and instrumentation.
* Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs on production equipment.
* Collaborate with production teams to identify process limitations and recommend improvements.
* Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on production lines.
* Apply structured problem-solving techniques (RCA, 5 Whys, predictive maintenance).
* Support continuous improvement initiatives including TPM, CBM, EEM, and lean principles.
* Assist with commissioning and installation of new machinery.
* Ensure engineering activities are accurately recorded on the CMMS, including time, parts, and costs.
* Support critical spares and plant inventory management.
* Contribute to knowledge transfer and basic skills training for operators.
* Comply fully with all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and site procedures.
* Undertake training and development identified through performance reviews.
* Carry out any other reasonable engineering-related duties.
