This is a hands-on role supporting the development and application of electrochemical technologies for environmental and industrial applications. You’ll contribute directly to customer trials, lab experimentation, and product development - playing a key part in turning cutting-edge science into practical solutions.
This role would suit a recently qualified graduate chemist/chemical engineer who is wanting a practical focus to their role coupled with hands-on lab experience.
Applications Scientist responsibilities:
Design and conduct lab-based experiments and cleaning trials with precise data recording and analysis.
Operate pilot-scale electrochemical generators and test rigs to produce materials for trials.
Support field-based customer trials, including equipment preparation, transport, operation at customer sites, and post-trial cleaning.
Collect and transcribe trial data into structured databases to support analysis and reporting.
Manage laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, stock control, waste disposal, and adherence to safety standards.
Draft and maintain documentation including SOPs, COSHH assessments, and risk assessments.
Assist the engineering team with prototype construction and system testing.
Monitor and calibrate test equipment such as pumps, sensors, and pipework.
Liaise with partners and internal teams to support the delivery of key projects.
Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment in line with health and safety protocols.
Qualifications and Experience:
Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related.
Some experience working in a commercial lab setting is desired but not essential.
Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis and reporting.
Familiarity with chemical handling, safety documentation (e.g. COSHH), and health & safety best practices.
Self-motivated and eager to develop technical skills and industry knowledge.
Comfortable working flexibly, including occasional unsociable hours or weekends.
Willing to travel across the UK for customer trials, with potential for occasional international work.
