Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to join a major government IT programme focused on improving security and platforms. This is a senior technical leadership role covering critical programme activities during a period of organisational change.

Key Details

Contract Duration: 6 months
Location: London, Bristol, or Manchester (with weekly travel to London as required)
Working Pattern: 2 days on-site minimum, hybrid working arrangements available
Security Clearance: Active SC required to start

Essential Requirements

Technical Background: Must have worked in IT or engineering roles with demonstrated technical ability
Programme Delivery Experience: Proven experience in IT programme delivery within government context
Senior Government Experience: Minimum 5 years in a government IT or technology environment
Leadership Experience: Previous experience in senior technical roles such as:
Lead Technical Architect
Programme Director/Interim Programme Director
Programme Architect
Financial Accountability: Experience managing budgets and financial responsibility
Solution Development: Track record of steering technical solutions through development

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic technical direction for the programme
Ensure quality standards across technical deliverables
Manage complex stakeholder engagement and facilitate discussions between multiple parties
Collaborate with programme management team and governance support
Oversee technical aspects of a programme involving 20-30 core team members with extended team up to 100 people

Role Focus

This position is strategic and collaboration-focused rather than day-to-day operational management. You will work alongside dedicated programme managers who handle operational mechanics, allowing you to focus on technical leadership and stakeholder engagement
