About the Role
As a Senior Funeral Director, you will oversee and guide a team of Funeral Directors, ensuring all funerals are arranged and conducted with dignity, respect, and efficiency.
This hands-on role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for upholding the values and traditions of our company.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
Supervise and support all Funeral Directors in their day-to-day duties.
Mentor and train new and developing team members.
Conduct regular performance reviews and benchmarking meetings.
Lead bi-monthly Funeral Directors’ meetings to promote communication and consistency.
Act as a key liaison between Senior Management and the Funeral Director team.
Work closely with the HR Manager to develop and implement procedures and best practices.
Client Services & Funeral Management
Arrange and conduct funerals with care, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Provide clear, compassionate guidance to clients, families, and representatives.
Handle Making Arrangement meetings and manage out-of-hours calls and removals.
Liaise with external parties including hospitals, doctors, clergy, crematoriums, cemeteries, and legal representatives.
Ensure the accurate input of data and production of invoices in collaboration with the Accounts Manager.
Follow up on cremation ashes and memorial orders, and review service sheets with the in-house Graphic Designer.
Operational Excellence
Uphold GDPR and all relevant legislation related to the role.
Maintain accurate, confidential records via our funeral administration system.
Ensure all processes are completed in line with legal, ethical, and company standards.
Proactively identify and resolve issues, manage a busy workload, and ensure timely communication across departments.
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience as a Funeral Director with senior or supervisory responsibilities.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and team management skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
Calm and professional demeanor in sensitive and emotional situations.
Full understanding of funeral legislation and GDPR compliance.
Comfortable participating in on-call duties and removals.
