Financial Controller

Overview
We are working with a well‑established, multi-site manufacturing business in Birmingham that is looking to appoint a commercially focused Financial Controller. This is a key leadership role, taking full ownership of the finance function and contributing significantly to the organisation’s financial direction. It’s an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who enjoys improving systems, driving operational performance, and leading a successful team.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Group Financial Director, you will be responsible for preparing timely, accurate, and fully integrated monthly management accounts for the group, ensuring all covenant requirements are met. You will also produce detailed financial reports for individual entities and provide meaningful commentary and insights for the senior leadership team.
This role requires strong experience in costing and margin analysis, labour and overhead recovery, scrap investigation, and intercompany costing reviews. You will also take a lead role in budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and variance analysis.
Main Responsibilities
* Produce monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasts, delivering clear analysis to senior management and the Board.
* Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, including full variance reviews.
* Analyse sales, production, and purchasing activity to identify opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
* Complete monthly stock movement reviews and manage annual stocktake processes.
* Support and challenge department leaders to improve financial performance.
* Monitor sales performance across product lines and regions to ensure volume and margin objectives are met.
* Develop, track, and report KPIs to enhance business efficiency and decision-making.
* Complete quarterly VAT and payroll reconciliations.
* Assist in year-end processes and act as a key point of contact for external auditors.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team and wider business.
* Manage ad hoc projects and quarterly grant submissions.
Key Requirements

* Full UK driving licence.
Experience & Qualifications
* Degree in Finance or Accounting plus a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
* Must of worked in a manufacturing environment.
* Advanced Excel capability and experience using modern accounting systems.
* Proven experience in hands-on financial management roles.
* Ability to clearly present complex financial information to senior leaders.
