SEMH Teaching Assistant Position

£89 - £100 per day

Teaching Personnel is currently looking for its next set of enthusiastic teaching assistants to support and nurture a class of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These needs can include—but are not limited to—anxiety, depression, disruptive and antisocial behaviour, uncooperative behaviour, frustration, anger, verbal and physical threats and aggression, and difficulties with social interactions. These factors make understanding, patience, and empathy non-negotiable within this role.

You will work with children aged 5–16, playing a pivotal role in their academic journey.

Position Details

8:30 am – 3:30 pm (may vary depending on the school)
September 2025 start, continuing throughout the academic year
Monday to Friday, term time only (option to work between 3–5 days a week)
Opportunity to transition to a permanent contract with the school for the right candidates

What You’ll Do:

Support the classroom teacher in delivering the school's tailored curriculum, assisting students with their learning either in small groups or on a one-to-one basis.
Work closely with other teaching assistants in the classroom to provide the tailored support these students need to thrive in the academic setting of small classes (between 8 and 10 students).
Help create a positive working environment that enables these students to develop.
Build trusting relationships with students, ensuring they feel welcomed in your presence and are motivated to perform at their best.
Foster professional relationships with fellow teaching staff in your classroom and across the school.

The Ideal Candidate:

Someone with a genuine passion for working in the classroom environment, looking to start or continue their career in this sector.
Strong behavioural management and communication skills.
Experience isn't essential—as long as you have the passion and drive to be successful in this work, we’d love to hear from you!
Experience with SEMH or challenging behaviour, either personally or professionally, is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
