About the Role We’re on the hunt for a sharp-thinking, solutions-driven Senior Electrical Engineer to play a lead role in the design, delivery, and commissioning of substation and DNO works across a portfolio of energy and infrastructure projects.
Based flexibly across Borehamwood, Slough, and the wider M4 corridor, you’ll work closely with internal teams, external clients, and utilities providers to ensure seamless delivery from concept through energisation.
Whether it’s diving into HV designs, resolving on-site snags, or leading technical discussions with DNOs—you’ll be our go-to electrical expert.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver the full electrical scope for 11kV–132kV substations, new connections, and network upgrades.
Liaise with DNOs (e.g., UK Power Networks, SSE, Scottish Power) to obtain technical approvals and manage interfaces.
Review and produce technical drawings, SLDs, protection schemes, and cable calculations.
Conduct site inspections and ensure installation and commissioning activities comply with standards and design intent.
Support tendering and bid teams with technical input and value engineering ideas.
Act as the technical authority and mentor junior engineers across the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with ENA standards, BS7671, CDM regs, and client-specific requirements.About You
Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
8+ years in HV electrical engineering, including site and office-based roles.
Experience with DNO procedures, specifications, and approval processes.
Proficient in Amtech, Dialux, AutoCAD, and protection coordination tools.
Strong knowledge of switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and earthing systems.
Excellent communicator—able to influence both boots-on-ground teams and boardroom stakeholders.
