Driven by a commitment to a net-zero future, this organisation is tackling complex energy distribution challenges with practical, scalable solutions that deliver real-world impact.

As part of their ongoing growth, they’re seeking an Android Engineer to join their Sheffield-based team and play a key role in developing the technology that’s expanding access to sustainable energy across Africa.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, purpose-led team building the digital platform that powers energy distribution across the continent.

This is a hands-on role where your work will make a tangible difference helping communities gain access to reliable, affordable energy. You’ll work closely with colleagues across engineering, product and operations to deliver technology that scales efficiently and performs reliably.

Key responsibilities

* Design, develop and maintain Android applications that support our energy distribution network

* Build robust offline-first functionality to ensure reliability in low-connectivity areas

* Integrate with backend APIs to enable real-time data synchronisation

* Optimise app performance across a wide range of Android devices

* Implement intuitive, user-friendly interfaces based on Material Design principle

* Conduct code reviews, share knowledge and encourage best practices across the team

* Debug and resolve issues reported from the field to minimise downtime for users

* Contribute to Agile sprint planning and development discussions

We’re looking for someone with:

* Strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java for Android development

* Experience with Android SDK, Android Studio and modern architecture patterns (MVVM, MVP)

* Good understanding of RESTful API integration and handling network challenges

* Knowledge of Android UI/UX principles and Material Design guidelines

* Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines for mobile apps

* Awareness of mobile app security and performance optimisation

* Experience with debugging tools and crash reporting systems

* Understanding of app deployment and lifecycle management on the Google Play Store

Bonus points for:

* Expertise in offline-first architectures and data synchronisation

* Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy devices

* Exposure to mobile payments or fintech applications

* Experience building apps that perform well on lower-end devices or limited connectivity
