JOB TITLE: Senior Product Manager

EMPLOYMENT BASIS: Permanent

LOCATION: Office

HOURS OF WORK: 8.30am – 5.00pm Mon-Fri

40 hours per week

REPORTS TO: Head of Product

TEAM FUNCTION:

Drive growth and improve profitability within a specific group of products and their associated markets.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

Become the ‘CEO of the product’, with significant autonomy to take ownership of the roadmap and strategy for assigned product groups.

Develop a deep understanding of the market and competitive landscape through regular customer visits with the sales team and attending trade events. Develop value-based pricing and route to market strategies that leverage growth opportunities whilst maximising profitability. Collaborate closely with all other areas of the business to on-board their support to manage products through the product lifecycle, ensuring product group objectives are delivered in alignment with business strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Define the product vision, annual strategic product objectives and corresponding tactical plans (with a primary focus on the “product” and “price” aspects of the marketing mix) for meeting these objectives.

* Develop and maintain the product roadmap as a live document in alignment with the product objectives and tactical plans.

* Lead cross-departmental focus groups to review product ideas and help shape the future roadmap and strategy

* Underpinned by strong market evaluations, lead the discovery, business case and launch stages of new product development.

* During design, development and operational readiness stages, hold the assigned project manager accountable for delivering the product to specification, on time and to quality.

* Develop product Value Propositions/ Unique Selling Points and set value-based pricing in line with market segmentation and positioning.

* Set financial performance goals to meet product strategic objectives and monitor and report regularly. Identify key trends and drive any necessary action to avert declining performance

* Close collaboration with divisional directors and their teams to ensure accountability to agreed product performance targets and adherence to pricing strategy.

* Manage internal and external customer request / suggestions for product design changes, and documentation updates.

* Build internal justifications to drive product improvement projects (such as cost reduction, performance / range enhancement, adaption to new regulations).

* Work closely with marketing and provide them with the necessary technical content for product promotion.

* Regularly provide product roadmap updates to internal stakeholders.

* Deliver product training for sales teams and customers.

* Provide approval for engineering change requests for products by reviewing cost, accreditation and customer/market-perceived quality impact.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

* Degree qualified (Master’s level preferred) in business, marketing, engineering, finance or related. Significant relevant industry experience can be considered in lieu of academic qualifications.

* Minimum 5 years of experience in a product management, engineering and/or customer-facing role.

* Knowledge of marketing frameworks such as the SOSTAC model or equivalent is highly desirable

* Commercial and technical experience within manufacturing industries is beneficial.

* Specific experience and knowledge within the building services and construction products industry highly desirable.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Willingness to develop a balanced understanding (commercial and technical) of the products and their applications.
