The Procurement Subcontract Manager is accountable for overseeing and ensuring the successful delivery of strategic subcontracts. This role is responsible for ensuring that subcontracted activities are carried out in line with contractual obligations, company policies, and relevant regulations, while driving cost efficiency and mitigating risk. The Procurement Subcontract Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders including project management, procurement, engineering, legal, and finance, as well as external partners and suppliers.

Location - Reading (hybrid working)

Type - Permanent position

Salary - £50,000-£65,000 (DOE) + benefits

Key responsibilities for the Procurement Subcontract Manager role and not limited to:

Draft and coordinate robust work packages and statements of work, ensuring alignment across internal stakeholders. Develop and manage subcontract plans in line with programme and organisational objectives. Administer subcontract terms and ensure compliance throughout the contract lifecycle.
Monitor subcontractor performance against contractual obligations and KPIs, leading regular performance reviews and strategic quarterly meetings. Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies. Drive improvements through supplier performance and development initiatives.
Act as the primary interface between programme teams and strategic subcontractors. Integrate subcontractor deliverables into overall programme plans and ensure effective cross-functional communication. Support programme reviews and report on subcontractor status and performance.
Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Manage expectations and ensure clear, consistent communication across functions such as engineering, legal, procurement, and finance.
Track subcontractor costs and progress against agreed budgets and timelines. Address variances through corrective actions and support programme-level budgeting and forecasting. Identify and manage subcontract-related risks, escalating critical issues where necessary.
Ensure subcontractors meet programme quality standards. Monitor quality performance, facilitate corrective actions, and support audits when required.

Key skills and experience required for the Procurement Subcontract Manager role and not limited to:

Proven experience in subcontract management or a related field.
Proven track record managing complex subcontracts, ideally within sectors such as aerospace, defence, or technology.

Strong knowledge and practical experience in supplier relationship management, performance management, and supplier development.
In-depth understanding of contractual terms and the full subcontracting lifecycle.
Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractor cost, schedule, and technical performance effectively.
Excellent negotiation, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficient in using project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project).
Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
