We are seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our clients growing team. You will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing control software and electro‑mechanical systems for bespoke machinery. The role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to take projects from concept through to commissioning.
This position is ideal for an engineer with strong Siemens PLC experience who enjoys hands-on problem solving, system integration, and delivering high‑quality technical solutions for customers across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
* Developing and enhancing existing software using Siemens PLCs / HMIs and LabVIEW.
* Designing and producing new control software for machinery using Siemens platforms.
* Diagnosing and resolving faults within electro‑mechanical systems.
* Integrating upgrades into existing control and mechanical systems.
* Commissioning, testing, and validating new machinery.
* Supporting the preparation of technical input for sales proposals.
* Travelling to UK customer sites for machine installations (may include occasional overnight stays).
* Optional (depending on experience):
* Producing wiring diagrams and schematic drawings using E‑Plan.
* Designing control cabinet layouts and field installation schematics.
* Preparing designs for manufacture and coordinating with external suppliers.
* Supervising electrical technicians and managing electrical build projects.
* Overseeing electrical subcontractors on design-and-build projects.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong experience with Siemens PLCs (TIA Portal, WinCC), ideally S7‑1500 and S7‑1200.
* Siemens HMI and Unified HMI development.
* Proficiency in ladder logic programming.
* Experience with Siemens Safety PLCs.
* Experience with Siemens Drives (G120/S120) or Control Techniques (M700).
* Competence in reading and producing electrical CAD (E‑Plan preferred).
* Experience working with LabVIEW.
* Understanding of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations (UK) and EU Machinery Directive.
* Methodical, accurate, and an excellent communicator.
* Full UK driving licence.
