We are seeking a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) with a specialism in challenging behaviours to support pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This is a part-time, permanent role ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive setting and wants to build long-term, positive relationships with children who need consistency and understanding.
About the School:
This warm and inclusive two-form entry primary school is well-regarded in the local Cheshunt community for its strong leadership, nurturing ethos, and its proactive approach to supporting pupils with SEN. The school boasts an experienced SENCO and access to regular CPD for staff working in complex behaviour settings. Classrooms are well-resourced, and there's an established behaviour support team to work alongside.
Your Role:
You’ll be supporting pupils who present with challenging behaviours due to a range of underlying needs such as SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), trauma, or undiagnosed SEN. You’ll work 1:1 and in small groups to provide calm, structured and consistent support throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored behavioural and emotional support to pupils
• Help implement behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies
• Support learning in class and during transitions
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO and therapists
• Promote a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment
Ideal Candidate:
• Experience supporting children with SEMH or challenging behaviours
• Resilient, patient, and confident in behaviour management
• Calm under pressure with a nurturing, empathetic nature
• Team player with excellent communication skills
• Training in Team Teach or similar de-escalation techniques is a bonus
What’s on Offer:
• Permanent part-time opportunity within a caring school community
• Access to professional development and ongoing training
• A chance to make a real difference in children’s lives
• Supportive leadership and SEN staff network
If you're ready to bring your passion and experience into a rewarding, long-term role, we’d love to hear from you.
