Head of Design – Residential

Location: Head Office (with travel as required)

We are recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking construction business with a strong and growing residential portfolio and exciting plans for future growth. Due to continued expansion, they are looking to appoint an experienced Head of Design – Residential to lead and shape the design function across their housing developments.

This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to influence design strategy, drive innovation and play a key role in delivering high-quality, well-considered residential schemes.

The Role

Reporting into senior leadership, the Head of Design will take ownership of the residential design process from concept through to delivery, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the residential design function across multiple developments

Managing and coordinating internal and external design teams and consultants

*

Overseeing the full design lifecycle from planning through to construction

*

Ensuring designs meet regulatory, technical and quality standards

*

Driving design efficiency, innovation and value engineering where appropriate

*

Working closely with commercial, construction and planning teams

*

Setting design strategy aligned with the business’s growth objectives

*

Mentoring and developing the design team

About You

*

Proven experience in a senior design leadership role within residential construction

*

Strong technical knowledge of UK residential design, building regulations and planning requirements

*

Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams and consultants

*

Confident engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing decision-making

*

A proactive, solutions-driven leader with a commercial mindset

*

Relevant professional qualification (e.g. RIBA, CIAT or equivalent)
