Special needs teaching assistants required for special needs school in Trowbridge; full time and long term requirements.
A special needs school at the heart of Trowbridge are looking for teaching assistants to take on full time work in September or potentially starting sooner to work with their students on a 1:1 basis. Working hours are 8:30-3:30, Monday to Friday and term time only. This school caters to a wide range of ages covering both primary and secondary and offer high quality education to students with a wide variety of special needs including but not limited to ASC, PMLD, SLD and MLD.
The school have a wonderful team in place and are part of a wider federation of special needs schools that together make one of the largest SEN providers in the UK. People that are placed within this school often go permanent should the placement work really well, so there is good opportunity to make the school a great fixture in your career in working with children and developing further.
We are looking for people that have the following;
- Experience in working with children ideally, this can be either from a previous school role or within another function such as youth centre, children's homes.
- Alternatively, experience with adults with special needs in a care function will also be considered. With this type of experience we are looking those that have supported adults with autism, or cerebral palsy etc.
- Able to cater to the needs of the children as well as support the educational goals as set by the teacher and the wider school.
- Can work well as part of a team but also be self sufficient and not afraid to get stuck in with the work.
- Able to handle the daily challenges of working with children that may have triggers for bad behaviour based around their diagnosis and can hold firm on expectations but do so in a manner that is nurturing.
To work with children you will need to have an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one as part of your application.
