Mechanical Engineer – Defence Engineering
Salary: £50,000 - £57,000 DOE
A long-established engineering firm with a global reputation in defence manufacturing is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join its North West-based Engineering Centre of Excellence. This company is a leader in deployable bridging systems and a key supplier to major UK defence programmes.
The Role:
You’ll take a lead role within the engineering team, performing advanced technical analysis, developing structural solutions, supporting junior engineers, and managing outsourced activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure structural integrity of mechanical systems for defence projects
Conduct stress and fatigue analysis, including non-linear FEA
Write test specifications, define acceptance criteria, and compile reports
Oversee internal and external design work and conduct design reviews
Interface with customers to define and deliver project requirements
Support continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives
What We’re Looking For:
Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar discipline
Chartered (IMechE, IStructE or equivalent)
Strong understanding of structural mechanics and materials
Proficient in FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS) and Eurocodes
Experienced in metallic fabrication processes and design validation
Competent in 3D CAD (e.g., Solid Edge, Spaceclaim)
Comfortable with technical documentation and simulation-led design
