Mechanical Fitter – Heavy Assembly (Defence)

A well-established engineering manufacturer (working within the defence sector) is looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join their team in Stockport. You’ll be carrying out heavy mechanical fitting and assembly work on precision-engineered components and large assemblies. This is a hands-on role in a high-integrity environment, suited to someone with a background in mechanical build or overhaul work.

The Role

Mechanical assembly of complex components and large units

Working from detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation

Using hand tools, torque wrenches, measuring equipment, etc.

Ensuring quality and safety standards are met throughout

Hours & Pay

Day Shift: Mon–Thu 07:00–15:30, Fri 07:00–12:30 — £19.22 per hour

Night Shift: Mon–Thu 21:15–06:55 — £25.56 per hour

Overtime paid after 37 hours: Weekdays x1.3, Saturdays x1.5, Sundays/Bank Holidays x2

Plenty of overtime available if desired

What You’ll Need

NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical discipline

Strong experience in mechanical fitting / assembly

Comfortable with heavy mechanical work and engineering drawings

Defence industry experience is advantageous but not essential
