An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Ecologist to join the landmark Sizewell C Project, a new nuclear power station in Suffolk that is a key part of the UK's future low-carbon energy strategy.
As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), we are committed to the highest standards of ecological protection, particularly given the site's proximity to sensitive designated areas. In this vital role, you will act as an on-site Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), providing essential supervision, monitoring, and advice to ensure construction activities adhere to strict ecological controls and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a key on-site ecological presence in the form of an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), supporting the implementation of ecological controls through supervision and monitoring.
Support the development and delivery of ecological method statements and management plans.
Provide on-site ecological advice to operational teams regarding protected species, vegetation clearance, and pollution control.
Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation, species licensing conditions, and mitigation plans.
Deliver ecological toolbox talks, briefings, and site-based coaching to operatives, supervisors, and management.
Liaise with contractors, ecological consultants, and key stakeholders such as Natural England and the Environment Agency.
Lead or support investigations into any ecological incidents, reporting findings and recommending corrective actions.Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Educated to at least a degree level in Ecology or a related subject.
A minimum of 2 years' experience working as an ECoW on major Civils, Utilities, or Construction projects, specifically including experience on an NSIP.
Practical experience and knowledge of UK environmental and wildlife legislation, ecology mitigation, and environmental licences.
Excellent knowledge of survey techniques for protected species.
Full or associate membership of a relevant professional institution (IEEM or AECoW).
A full UK driver's licence.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to positively influence environmental performance.Desirable Attributes:
A Master's degree in a relevant field.
