Project Manager (Structures)

Red Sky Personnel is representing a leading main contractor delivering a major, high-profile infrastructure project in Birmingham. Due to ongoing project requirements, our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager (Structures) to support the delivery of complex substructure and superstructure packages on a large-scale programme.

This role will support the Structures Senior Project Manager and Construction Lead, coordinating planning, design validation, procurement, and construction activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, sustainability, and collaboration.

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing defined packages of substructure and structural works, ensuring delivery in line with the Contractor’s Management Plan, programme milestones, commercial targets, and client expectations. The role requires a proactive leader who can coordinate multidisciplinary teams and work closely with client representatives and supply chain partners.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Structures SPM in managing substructure and structure packages from planning through delivery

Provide short-form and detailed progress reports, including cost, forecast, risks, and issues

Attend client delivery meetings and deputise for the Structures SPM where required

Coordinate construction, design, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure timely subcontract awards and work commencement

Build and lead a high-performing structures team through clear objectives and performance management

Promote a collaborative working environment across site teams, stakeholders, and the supply chain

Establish and maintain effective site organisation and communication with client representatives

Ensure works are delivered in line with project standards, achieving right-first-time quality

Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practice

Manage receipt and communication of client instructions, ensuring clarity of authority and contractual compliance

Technical Skills & Competencies

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report at project level

Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations

Commercially astute, with experience of project controls and delivery to budget

Proven experience working under NEC forms of contract

Strong organisational, leadership, and team-building skills

Qualifications, Certifications & Experience

Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a numerate or engineering discipline

HNC/HND acceptable with significant relevant experience

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE or equivalent) preferred

Strong IT capability, including experience with BIM, AutoCAD, and collaborative platforms

Valid CSCS card and Safety for Senior Managers training

Significant experience delivering complex RC structures and station or transport interchange infrastructure

Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget

Experience working for major infrastructure clients, including rail or transport authorities

Demonstrated ability to manage interfaces with other contractors and rail stakeholders
